Join Icelandair on March 5, 2011 at Kendall Square Community Ice Skating Rink; 12-5pm for the First Annual Last Bostonian Skating*, a truly unique event benefiting Icelandair’s own Special Children Travel Fund and the Children's Hospital Boston.

The Last Bostonian Skating is designed to bring a fun and creative event to Icelandair North America’s recent headquarters in the Boston area. Participating teams will compete in a series of airline theme trials, testing their endurance, speed, showmanship, and creativity in the ultimate quest to win a trip to Iceland while raising money for a greater cause.

  • Prior to the event, each team will receive an online landing page where they can raise donations supporting the Children's Hospital Boston on behalf of their team.
  • The total dollar amount raised for each team will be subject to the scoring below, and count as a portion of each team's overall score.

The competition will be broken down into four rounds with five (5) teams of exactly five people (5) competing for a change to win a trip to Iceland. There is no need to be a professional skater, or have expert skating sills, so get your friends and have some fun. Anyone can win!

Round 1 - Book it!

  • Time Trial - One team at a time will race.
  • Five laps around the ice
  • Relay Race - each member of the team will take a lap around the ice, passing a computer keyboard to the next member of the team.
  • The lowest overall time wins Round 1. Once teams cross the finish line, they will receive a ticket for Round 2.

Round 2 - Snag Your Bag!

  • Time Trial - One team at a time
  • The five members of the team will line up against one end of the rink holding an article of clothing. Each team member will skate to the other end of the rink one at a time, place the clothing in a suitcase at the other end, and skate back. The next person repeats this process until all members have packed the suitcase. The last teammate puts the final article in the suitcase and will skate back to the finish line with the suitcase.
  • The lowest overall time wins Round 2.

Round 3 - Obstacle Course - Travel in Comfort

  • Time trial, one team at a time.
  • Team captain from each team will sit in a chair while another team members push the seated team member through a series of obstacles; the other 3 teammates will be "obstacles"

Final Round - Skateoff to Takeoff (Show us your style! Be creative!)

  • Teams will perform a rehearsed routine for 2-3 minutes
  • Routines will be performed to a soundtrack provided by each team. Both an outline of the performance and the soundtrack must be submitted to Icelandair for approval prior to the event.
  • Performances will be judged based on skill, creativity, theme, entertainment value, crowd reaction, and any other criteria deemed fit by the independent judges panel.
  • 3 judges will score teams based on the above criteria from 0-10, for a maximum score of 30.
  • One judge from Icelandair; One judge from Children's Hospital Boston, and One Special Celebrity Judge.

For each round scoring will be as follows:

  • 1st place = 5 points
  • 2nd place = 4 points
  • 3rd place = 3 points
  • 4th place = 2 points
  • 5th place = 1 point
  • A team's overall score is calculated by adding up the score of each individual round or element; 1-5 points for Donations Received; 1-5 points for Round 1; 1-5 points for Round 2; 1-5 points for Round 3; 1-5 Points for Final Round. Winner will be selected after the Final Round unless there is a case of a tie.

During the day in addition to The Last Bostonian Skating, Icelandair will be sponsoring admission and skate rentals to the rink, so everyone can come and skate for free!
